Apollo 20

NASA originally planned for 20 Apollo spacecraft. Apollo 8 was the first ship to carry people to the Moon so, if all went well, there would have been 13 trips. Twenty-six humans might have walked on the lunar surface. As it turned out, just 12 people landed.

On April 14, 1970, the Apollo 13 explosion robbed Jim Lovell and Fred Haise of their opportunity to make a landing, but that was not the first chance to be lost. Earlier that year, on January 4, Apollo 20 was canceled. Only Apollo 11 and Apollo 12 had flown at that time.
